Letter to the Editor: In Support of Sarah MacDonald

As proud Dedham residents, we are writing in support of our friend Sarah MacDonald, who is running for election to Dedham’s Board of Selectmen. As you may recall, Sarah served on the board from 2008 to 2014 — years that were marked by achievement, fiscal responsibility and innovation. We are so fortunate Sarah has stepped forward again to bring her intelligence, integrity, energy and collaborative and communication skills to work for all of our benefit.

When Sarah previously served on the Board of Selectmen, she was an active member of several subcommittees, including the Dedham 375 Committee (commemorating Dedham’s 375-year history) and the Master Plan Implementation Committee (ensuring accountability for progress in implementing goals outlined in the Master Plan). During her tenure the town achieved financial stability resulting in an S&P Global “AAA” rating, launched the Robin Reyes Fund to set hotel and meals tax revenue aside to cover town building projects, and committed to fully fund pension and retirement liabilities for town employees. Sarah also sought alternative sources of revenue to bolster services and decrease the tax burden on citizens, including a state grant for Dedham Square improvement and creative cost-saving measures such as single stream trash/recycling, which significantly reduced costs while doubling our recycling rate.

As Dedham continues to grow and evolve, we need Sarah’s experience and creativity to ensure the town continues to support the needs of all Dedham residents — including the growing age 55+ population who need diverse and affordable housing options and programs and events that engage residents across generations. We need Sarah’s abilities, as someone who brings people together and as a communications professional, to ensure that seniors’ voices are heard and counted. We need Sarah’s commitment and energy now.

A strong town needs strong leaders. Sarah will be a hardworking, fair, honest and independent voice on the board. Please join us in voting for her on Election Day, April 13.

Respectfully,
